— IN THE CURATOR’S WORDS —
When I began Bookaestate, it was not to build another travel company. It was to do something quieter.
The houses we care for are not meant to be advertised. The people who stay in them are not meant to be found. Our work is the slow, careful business of making sure the two meet only when it is right for both.
I grew up in a world where the best places were never the ones on a list. A grand-aunt’s estate you were invited to once. A winter house owned by a family friend. A wing of a palace opened only for a small gathering. Access always came through introduction, through trust held across generations. Bookaestate is an attempt to carry that spirit into this century, for a small number of people who recognise it.
We work differently because we must. Most of our houses are not listed anywhere. They are homes — some held in families for a hundred years, some newly entrusted to us — and they open only when a request is welcomed by the people who own them. That takes time. We do not apologise for it.
What we offer, in return, is a kind of hospitality that has nearly disappeared from the world. One point of contact, always reachable. A house prepared specifically for you, not merely vacated by the last guest. Menus by cooks who know the season. Drivers who arrive before you ask. Everything in the background — because the foreground should be yours.
We are not for everyone. We are for those who prefer privacy over publicity, who would rather be hosted than served, who understand that the finest things take time and should not be rushed. If that sounds like you, I look forward to hearing from you.
In confidence, always.
